The Deligram shines a spotlight on the many incredible food artisans in New York and beyond, and we look to our friends to help us discover the best of the best every day. This week, we spoke to Jenelle Manzi, a professional ballerina with New York City Ballet who also founded New York-based snack brand Get Golden.
As an athlete, Manzi has had to manage injuries throughout her career–and food was always a part of her healing. She started making her own snacks when she couldn’t find something that was nourishing, made from trustworthy ingredients, and satisfied her hunger. Now, you, too, can eat like an athlete. What started as Manzi’s personal fuel, is now a collection of pantry essentials, which range from nut and seed bars to nut spreads, is made with thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Without further ado, here are some of the other things she loves to eat:
Jenelle Manzi’s Favorite Things
Inessence Potato Chips, $2, markys.com
“They are the perfect chip—sturdy, flavorful, and a great vessel for anything—and a favorite when I’m hosting. Marky’s Caviar actually sells them in NYC!”
Knead Love Bakery Cinnamon Bread, $22, kneadlovebakerynyc.com
“I love supporting another NYC-based brand and everything Knead Love makes is truly delicious.”
Furikake Finishing Spice, $14, isleof.us
“This is truly a pantry staple for me. It makes a simple weeknight bowl or salad so much more vibrant. I put it on everything!”
Guest In Residence trousers ($695) + vest ($385), guestinresidence.com
“It’s officially cozy season in NYC during the winter and I have been living in these trousers and vest for cooking nights at home. They’re chic, but also super comfortable and warm.”
SOS Chefs Vanilla Powder, $125 for 4 ounces, sos-chefs.com
“The vanilla’s aroma and complexity speaks for itself and I love to bake or make truffles with it. Beyond that, SOS is a gem in NYC with wonderful people who are excited to share spices from all over the world with you.”
Currently Cooking:
Alison Roman’s Slow-Roasted Citrus Salmon With Herb Salad
“I love this recipe as it’s super simple and versatile. You can make it for a group or you can make it for yourself and have leftovers. Post-holiday I’m always craving lighter, simple, and flavorful dishes.”
Currently Eating:
“It’s cozy and I love their patio in the summer. A perfect stop for gallery hopping in Chelsea.
“Favorite stop with friends post MOVES dance class (founded by Lauren Gerrie and Marisa Competello). Make sure to get the fries and a martini!”
“The burger is one of my favorites and bonus points for the psychic upstairs.”
“A New York classic I love to go to with friends.”
